In a crowded apartment in Singapore, Chua and Meng’s small family is falling apart. The mother’s death has disrupted the harmony. While the father, Chua, is worn out by his dangerous work and the need to care for his ailing mother, 16-year-old Meng is tempted to join a gang of bullies, who give him a sense of belonging. The bullies push Meng away from the despair in his home – but also from his father – and drag him to random violence on the streets. When compulsory conscription sends him out to a journey in the jungle, Meng finds himself grappling with questions of fate and freedom of choice.
