The film's director Rodrigo Reyes first meets the boy Sanso when he acts as an interpreter for him during his criminal trial in California. Sanso was sentenced to life in prison for his membership in a gang that committed a shocking murder, but the sentence and Sanso's personality continued to trouble Reyes, and he renewed contact with him.

The film focuses on investigating the circumstances of Sanso's life, with the aim of illuminating dark corners of the American dream. Since the prison administration did not allow Sanso to be interviewed in front of a camera or a recording device, most of the communication between the two was conducted in letters that Sanso sent to Reyes. The story we will discover through the letters and through a series of in-depth interviews with his family members will present the portrait of Sanso and the forces that shaped his life.
