In the Czech Republic, almost one in every two children are exposed to unwanted pornographic content. Boys and girls are exposed to incessant sexual harassment and obscene proposals on social media, with almost no parental supervision or any attempt by media providers to put an end to it. The psychological effects of the sexual abuse are unprecedented in scope. Two documentary filmmakers decide to carry out a radical psycho-social experiment: For ten days they will film three female actors, 19 year-olds playing 12 year-olds, give each a room at a film studio, and task them with creating a fake profile on various social networks.
Results are instant. Within minutes they receive dozens of friend requests from men, and right from the first chat they receive sexual images and proposals. They are forced to view explicit content, are threatened and extorted, and solicited to perform improper acts. Through the ten days of the experiment, 2,485 men contacted the three girls, setting up 21 covertly filmed encounters. What began as an experiment quickly proves to be a way catch pedophiles, and law enforcement is brought in.
Watching the film is gut-wrenching and disturbing, at times horrifying. A challenging docu-activist film, but an important and thought-provoking one.

Natasha runs the canteen at a secret 1950s Soviet research institute. This is the beating heart of the DAU universe, everyone drops in here: the Institute’s employees, scientists and visiting foreign guests. One evening Natasha sleeps with a visiting French scientist, the following day she is summoned to an interrogation by a KGB officer, who questions the nature of her relationship with the foreign guest.
DAU. Natasha is the first feature from Ilya Khrzhanovskiy’s large-scale simulation of the totalitarian Soviet system. The multimedia project DAU, shot over two years, involved the building of a vast set that recreated the conditions of a Stalin-era USSR scientific research centre, where the film’s crew and non-professional cast lived in historically authentic conditions.

After being released following several years in a Georgian prison, Irina returns to her crumbling home in a god-forsaken mining town. Her family disowns her, her husband is dysfunctional, her children are regressing, and it seems that nobody pays any mind to what she had to go through. Irina goes back to her family, but struggles to find her place in the world. A social worker suggests that she try yoga, where she meets Luka, a handsome young man who, like her, feels adrift from the world. Together they learn to inhale and exhale, to fill space in this world.
Tsintsadze, the director, returns to his native Georgia to describe simply, yet with an artist's touch, the alienation and loneliness of a woman whose ways deviate slightly from the norm in such a conservative society. A bittersweet film, disturbing yet touching. The brilliant screenplay is threaded with moments that emphasize Irina's alienation from her surroundings, and this along with a restrained, mesmerizing performance by Salome Demoria, turn the film into an exceptional experience.

In Mexico a person can disappear without a trace, as though they never existed. Corruption and organized crime are everywhere – in government, in the courts, in the military and in the police. This is not merely commonplace corruption but systematic kidnappings, torture and murder of dissidents and human rights activists. Those murdered are vanished without a trace.
Those who seek justice may also find themselves in mortal danger.
One such justice warrior is Carmen Aristegui a popular and admired journalist and radio host, who finds herself fighting to broadcast the voice of activists, journalists like her who strive to uncover the crimes committed in their homeland and who pay for this with their lives. When she is fired from her job at the radio station, she starts an internet broadcast and insists on continuing to use it to appeal to her 18 million listeners, and raise awareness to government corruption and the disappearance of journalists - all this, under constant government surveillance and with significant risk to her own life and those close to her.
The film follows Carmen's daily life, one of Mexico's bravest voices, in her journey for justice and her fight to end the enforced silence.

Georgia’s Academy Award winner and nominee for the Academy Award competition for Best International Feature Film is based on actual events which took place during the cease-fire in the Russian-Georgian war of 2008. When the inhabitants of the small village of Shindisi hear word of the oncoming Russians, they flee the village, knowing they might never return. Only two families choose to stay – an old man and his sick wife, and a drunk widower and his teenage daughter. At the same time, a company of about two dozen soldiers, on their way to evacuate the area, encounters a Russian military force, starting a battle, the result of which is all too foregone. Under the cover of darkness, slipping past Russian patrols, the villagers go out to try to hide the few soldiers left alive.
Though it includes impressive combat scenes, this isn’t a typical machoistic war film. Its focus is the bravery and compassion of the villagers, who risk their lives to save the wounded soldiers. Tsintsadze compassionately and patriotically shows us the human side of an inhuman war.

Lisbon is changing before the very eyes of Céline Coste Carlisle, a Swiss artist living in the city for 20 years. Céline tracks down the things that connected her to the city to begin with. She meets again with two artists, veteran Yvonne Diaz and new-to-the-scene Marta Miranda, two musicians who fight for the survival of their art – the traditional Fado music, the sweet, melancholy song of longing and love that speaks of daily hardships in the city – and for the preservation of their community.
The songs' lyrics accompany her on her tour of the old neighborhoods of Lisbon, undergoing a rapid process of gentrification that pushes the longtime residents out. The film examines the connection between the Fado singers and the changing city.
Both directors, local foreigners as they put it, lead the viewers through the gorgeous alleys of Lisbon on a moving musical journey into Fado and the changing city.

In 2010, multinational food giant Unilever announced that it was closing a small tea plant in Provence and moving production to Poland. 182 workers decided to fight the conglomerate and save the plant and their jobs. They launched a strike that lasted for 1,336 days, echoed throughout France and even gained the support of then-President Francois Holland. After a three-year struggle, the workers managed to gain control of the factory and create a cooperative, in which the workers are joint-owners. The plant reinvents itself under the name Scop-TI and concentrates on local organic produce.
But the immense victory of the workers in achieving independence is clouded by the factory's financial failure. The movie follows the attempt of the workers, as a collective, to fight for their economic survival, and echoes the French ethos and pride regarding the power of labor organization and social struggles. Director Laura Coppens chooses to show the great respect shown towards local artisanal production and traditions going back centuries alongside the modern machines whose operation makes for mesmerizing viewing. A big little story, optimistic and hope-inspiring, which embodies the three pillars of modern France: Equality, Liberty, and Fraternity.

With direct and confident cinematic skill, the three female directors lay the background to the Eighth Amendment to the Irish constitution. This amendment equated the rights of a fertilized embryo to that of the mother carrying it – which in fact constituted a complete ban on abortion. This amendment, passed by plebiscite in 1983, came up for a revote in 2018. The film focuses on several activist women who do all they can to motivate the mostly Catholic and conservative Irish population to strike the constitutional ban on abortion and thus, after centuries of systematic discrimination against women by the religious and medical establishments, return to Irish women control over their bodies.
This is an optimistic story about a great victory, in an age where public social campaigns yield little if any real change.

" When hope and resistance come together, no matter what happens: the end will be spectacular"
Zilan, a young Kurdish woman, returns to her hometown of Diyarbakir following the death of her brother, a fighter in the PKK Kurdish underground, at the hands of ISIS. But the city is no longer as it was. It is enmeshed in a bloody war. The Kurds are rebelling against the oppressive Turkish regime, seeking to establish a democratic political autonomy for their people, while the military and police suppress these attempts with great force and blockade the Sur district. The siege of Sur lasts for over a hundred days and Zilan, seeking to avenge the death of her brother, joins the resistance forces alongside other women.
This rare and dramatic story is based on journals written by Kurdish freedom fighters, killed on their land, and on testimonies by survivors who also appear in the film. The film focuses on the courage of the female freedom fighters, the unexpected sheroes of the revolution. It was filmed for the most part on the Syrian-Turkish border, while the Turkish military was bombarding the ISIS forces.
In a uniquely powerful maiden film, Director Ersin Celik turns the spotlight upon an unprecedented historical event and examines universal values such as hope, friendship, sacrifice and loss as a bunch of youngsters fight for their freedom.

Kosovo in the late 1990s. The Serbs enter Pristina and close all local Albanian establishments, including the theater. The four members of a local burlesque troupe named "The Flying Circus" find themselves unemployed. Hearing a rumor that Michael Palin, of Monty Python fame, is in Albania shooting a documentary, they decide to risk crossing the border to stage their "Flying Circus" at a theater festival, perhaps even with their idol Palin in attendance. The road is full of dangers and obstacles, but the four men insist on carrying their plan through. A surreal tale full of love, based against all likelihood on the director's true adventures. The ensemble is endearing, the comedic work sharp, and the film is chock-full of cinematic references sure to delight fans everywhere. "Our generation is disappearing. We're the ones losing our friends, our brothers, our sisters. So we're the ones who have to stand up and stop it, because nobody else is doing it."
Jaz Thornton is a woman from New Zealand who stands body and soul blocking her contemporaries from taking their own lives. As a young girl, Jaz suffered from suicidal tendencies and mental difficulties that lead to several attempts at ending her life. She survives and overcomes, but along the way loses her best friend. Jaz decides to become the voice that will lead to changing perceptions and combatting the stigma entailed with acute emotional problems, and creating awareness of the scourge of suicide among young Kiwis. She creates an organization called Voices of Hope aiming to restore hope in youngsters who have lost it, and dedicates a web series to her late friend.
The film accompanies her on her journey, which is replete with frustration and challenges, but ends in hope and redemption.
The director succeeds at dealing directly and forthrightly with such a sensitive topic, and paints a deep portrait of a young and inspiring woman.

Two feature films named "The Red Orchestra" were produced 18 years apart, in East Germany in 1971 and in France in 1989. Both films center on a figure who led an anti-Nazi spy ring named "The Red Orchestra" in their respective countries – two groups utterly unaware of each other. One was led by a Nazi officer serving at the Aviation Ministry in Berlin, and the other by a Polish Jew operating from Brussels.
Both films, spy thrillers with remarkably similar styles, offer different perspectives on the fight against the Nazis. One, from a Communist perspective, refers to resistance from within the ranks of Nazism; the other, from a Western perspective, refers to the braver of popular resistance. Each offers a partial, skewed picture.
The full, true story remained hidden for a long time. Now Director Carl-Ludwig Rettinger seeks to present the full picture, through tracking the two heroes – the Nazi officer, Harro Schulze-Boysen, and the Jew, Leopold Trepper – and members of their spy rings.
In addition to interviews with relatives of the main protagonists, the film combines archive material from the period, as well as excerpts from both feature films. All these threads are woven with an artist's hand, giving the film a spectacular artistic dimension.
The result is a fascinating, historically comprehensive document, which trains a spotlight on those important spy rings, as well as speaking to the power of cinema to create a narrative and cement it into historical fact.

Dolores “Nono” and Patrick “Pop-pop”, a married couple, run a daycare facility for kids from their home in New Rochelle, New York. Their circumstances force them to open their home to overnight stay, forcing them to work around the clock. Nono provides a solution for single mothers, most of whom work several jobs. These working-class mothers, who are mostly black or immigrants, are forced to work night shifts. The incessant work, lack of sleep and physical effort take their toll on Nono. She suffers from harsh pains, but refuses to rest, claiming those women would be lost without her. Nono and Pop-pop aren’t merely daycare operators. They provide support, assistance and a social hub for the community, and act as an alternative family.
This empathetic film delivers a refined and observing glance, filled with compassion and love. On the one hand, it is a hymn full of praise to those single mothers who are forced to sacrifice their time with their children in favor of supporting them; and on the other hand serves as an indictment of a harsh and unforgiving economic reality, which forces women to work without providing social safety net.
Following the screening of the film we will hold a discussion moderated by Ishai Menuchin (MAZON) with the participation of Avi Dabush (Shomrei Mishpat - Rabbies for Human Rights), Ruti Yehoshua (The Forum for the Struggle Against Poverty), and Einat Ovadia (The Zulat Institute for Equality and Human Rights).

Weiyena Zhao was born in Beijing. Her parents named her after the Austrian city of Vienna, to which they migrated when she was four.
Her name symbolizes the two identities she lives with – the Chinese one and the Austrian. This is a travel film between two cities – Vienna and Beijing – to find her place in the world and confront her identity. In Chinese, as Weiyena explains, the words home and family are inseparable. Perhaps this is the reason she goes in search of her first home, in Beijing. There, during summer holidays, she first felt a real sense of family and belonging.
The impromptu conversations around the family circle, especially among the three grandparents still living, having come from different backgrounds, weave a tapestry of stories and experiences, impressions and destinies which create parallels between the history of the family and that of modern China. The squabbles and mild fights among the family members create moments of absurdist comedy. The two directors manage to create a moving film about homeland, identities and immigration, which thanks to its intimacy with the protagonists enables rare insights regarding families and fate in a complex foreign culture, through rare personal and national archive materials.

Not a day goes by without Palestinian youths being arrested by Israeli soldiers for throwing stones, and sent to prison for months, and even years.
When these teens come out of prison, they have a hard time adjusting to life on the outside. At the Hebron YMCA, 12 such youths gather for group counseling meetings, meant to help them return to normality. Each teen expresses their hardship in his own way – Mohammed does not want to go to school, and spends his days taunting soldiers, Maharan spent two years in prison, and upon his release could not return to school or find a job, and spends his nights playing video game; and Hamza can’t focus and takes his frustrations out on his younger brother. In the reality these teens experience, prolonged arrests are nothing out of the ordinary, and they are not used to addressing their mental hardships and nightmares. The group becomes a safe place to open up, and discuss the trauma, even if reality does not allow for a normal life. They talk about their aspirations for the days after the occupation ends, to be a pilot, or a doctor; naïve dreams. But the chance of them going back to prison is greater than the chance of rehabilitation. This film provides a rare view into the tragic consequences of the imprisonment of young people who were born into a reality of occupation.
